Update: October 14, 2024
We are pleased to report that, thanks to the swift action of the KAC Insurance Committee, the issue has been resolved. Providers can now submit prior authorizations electronically again, leading to faster approvals and ensuring patients receive timely care.
On September 23rd, KAC members alerted us to difficulties submitting prior authorization requests with Wellcare. Our Insurance Committee immediately raised these concerns with Wellcare to inform them that providers were encountering issues in processing prior authorizations for their patients.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve confirmed that this issue is affecting various types of healthcare providers, not just chiropractors. Unfortunately, Wellcare has informed us that there is currently no resolution available.
In the meantime, some providers have found success by both faxing the prior authorization form and submitting the request electronically through the Wellcare portal. This approach helps create a digital trail for the request. We strongly recommend all providers keep detailed records, including copies of any faxed forms and confirmation numbers from both submissions.
You can access the fax form here. When submitting the form, be sure to follow all instructions. Make sure to include clinical information, outcome assessments, and any complicating factors with the request, as indicated.
We will provide updates as soon as we receive more information from Wellcare. Thank you to all KAC members for your continued trust as we work through these insurance challenges.
