NOTE: This post has been updated and CMS has reversed their notice issued October 15th. See updated post here.

According to a CMS announcement on October 15, Medicare payments for many services, including those billed by chiropractors, are temporarily delayed while the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) awaits Congressional action to renew expired payment provisions.

CMS has directed all Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) to temporarily hold claims for services with dates of service on or after October 1, 2025, until Congress acts on possible legislative extensions. This hold affects:

  • Services billed under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule
  • Ground ambulance transport claims
  • Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) claims

Chiropractors may continue submitting Medicare claims for services rendered on or after October 1, 2025. However, payment delays are expected until Congressional action reinstates the expired provisions. This situation results from the lapse of Medicare payment policies previously extended under the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2025.

Although claim submission remains open, the KAC encourages doctors to review their office cash flow and prepare for short-term reimbursement delays during this period.

The Kentucky Association of Chiropractors will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep members informed as new information becomes available from CMS and Congress.
