Understanding Your Member Hours
A quick guide to your new membership benefit
Think of Member Hours as a golden ticket for your membership. As an Enhanced member, you receive a set number of Member Hours each year, which you can “spend” to enroll in eligible courses instantly, no checkout, no invoice.
What Are Member Hours?
Member Hours are a benefit built into your Enhanced membership. Once your membership is active, you are granted a set number of hours annually (currently 18 hours per year for Enhanced members). You can use these hours to register for eligible courses in the KAC catalog at no additional cost.
One important rule: a course must be paid for in full using Member Hours. You cannot combine Member Hours with a credit card or other payment method to cover part of the cost. The only exceptions are paid live-event agenda items (such as meals) and Purchase CE credit, which are sold separately and must be paid for with a standard payment method.
Checking Your Balance and History
Log in to your account on thekac.org and look for the Member Hours tab. There you will find:
- A description of the program and how your hours work
- A history table showing every time you have earned or spent Member Hours
Using Your Hours to Register for a Course
First step is always making sure you’re logged in. If you’re not logged in, the system doesn’t know who you are. When you are browsing the catalog and find a course that accepts Member Hours, what you see depends on your account:
- Enough hours available: A “Purchase with Member Hours” button appears. Click it, confirm, and you are registered immediately.
- Not enough hours available: You will see the same button, but the pop-up will offer to let you pay with a standard payment method instead.
- Not enrolled in a Member Hours membership: You will see a “Learn More about Member Hours” button, which links to memberships that include this benefit.
- Not logged in: You will be prompted to sign in first. Once signed in, you are returned to the same page to complete your registration with Member Hours, if eligible.
If you add a Member Hours-eligible course to your cart instead of using the button, you will still get a last-chance option to apply your hours before checkout is complete.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
- Member Hours are granted once your membership is active.
- If you join in the middle of the year, member hours will be prorated. (you will not receive 18 hours if you only pay for 4 months of membership.)
- Unused hours expire at the end of the year!
- Member Hours cover the base cost of a course only. Add-ons like paid meals or CE credit are billed separately.
- There are a few programs that are excluded, like Dry Needling Institute’s Dry Needling certification. If there is no “Purchase with Member Hours” button, that course is excluded from being used with your Member Hours.
