Updates to Coordination of Benefits (COB) for all KY Medicaid Managed Care Members

On Thursday, July 1, 2021, a significant increase in claim rejections was discovered for members who were identified as having primary coverage from another plan. These rejections also caused an increase in calls to the MCOs and MedImpact from members and providers stating that the COB information on file was not accurate, resulting in inappropriate rejections and causing unnecessary access issues for members attempting to fill medications. Research confirmed that there were errors
on the file containing the COB information.

Late Thursday, the Department for Medicaid Services (DMS) made the decision to remove the COB segments from member profiles temporarily to allow claims to process until the file containing this information was corrected and reloaded into the POS system.

Once the data has been corrected, there will be a scheduled date to reimplement the COB information on the member profiles. MedImpact and DMS will notify all MCOs approximately 24 hours ahead of deployment.

If you have any questions about this change, please reach out to MedImpact at KYMCOPBM@medimpact.com and DMS at KYMCO@mslc.com.
